All officers of the City of Peabody, whether elected or appointed, either under the laws of the State of Kansas or ordinances of the city, shall, before entering upon the duties of their respective offices, take and subscribe an oath or affirmation as follows:

       “I do solemnly swear (or affirm, as the case may be) that I will support the constitution of the United States and the constitution of the State of Kansas, and faithfully discharge the duties of so help me God.”

Any officer or employee of this city who shall refuse to sign oath required herein shall be subject to immediate dismissal of office, in addition to any other penalty prescribed by law.

All officers and employees required this article to take subscribe or sign an oath or affirmation shall be supplied necessary forms for the purpose at the expense of the city upon taking and subscribing or signing any such oath affirmation, the same shall be filed by the City Clerk.

The following city officers shall each, before entering upon the duties of his office, give a good and sufficient corporate surety bond to the City of Peabody, Kansas, which shall be approved by the Governing Body before the officer shall begin the performance of his duties. The bond shall be in the following amount for each officer named:

(a)   City Treasurer            $6,000.00

(b)   City Clerk                  $1,000.00

All surety bonds required by any provision of this article shall be conditioned for the faithful performance of duty and of all acts required by the laws of the State of Kansas and the ordinance of the City of Peabody, and for the application and payment over to the proper person of all moneys or property coming into the hands of each such officer or employee by virtue of his office or employment.

The premiums on all surety bonds required by this article shall be paid as a claim against the city.
